Stony
Hill School was built in 1856. It originally stood across the
street and was moved to its present location in 1899. Students from
Grades K-8 studied together in this one-room setting until 1952 when
it became a kindergarten. The school continued as a kindergarten
for neighborhood children until it closed in 1969. In 1970 a pine
tree fell on the school causing extensive damage. Town resident
Robert Geisel led a group – Friends of Stony Hill School consisting
of former students and concerned citizens that began restoration of
the school. The restoration was completed in 1998.

Stony
Hill School is included in the National Register of Historic Places.
Many thanks to the vision, hard work and dedication of the late Mr.
Geisel and the Friends of Stony Hill School for restoring and
preserving such a wonderful building.

Today
Stony Hill School continues the tradition of hosting classes and
being used as a vehicle where students learn. Instead of
studying reading ‘riting, and ‘rithmatic, (3R’s) we are learning the
eight limbs of Ashtanga yoga a path to transformation. Stony Hill
School has a wonderful energy and is a great place to practice yoga.
