Pilates
Pilates (puh-LAH-teez) is a whole torso
workout that combines Eastern and Western philosophies for mental and
physical conditioning. The exercise program was designed by Joseph Pilates
to be used by everyone regardless of age or fitness level. The program is
based on six principles: concentration, control, centering, flow, precision,
and breathing. Adhering to
the six principles of Pilates allows you to train the body holistically by
integrating mental tuning, visualization and breath control, while the
muscles gain strength and length. Strengthening the core muscles that
support the spine, the internal organs and posture will create a strong body
foundation. As with Yoga, Pilates stresses the importance of breathing.
Controlled breathing helps to purify the body
reduces stress to the body during the exercises, and builds stamina. Deep
breathing allows pure, rich blood to flow to all your organs including your
brain leaving room for clarity and focusing. You'll look great and feel
